Dundowran Beach QLD History

The area may have got it’s name from Kabi language ‘thundarun’ which translates to plum tree or from the QLD ‘kauri  pine’. There are heritage listed sites in the adjacent suburb of Dundowran:  the Dundowran Recreational Hall and  Gallagher & Bagnell Grave Site. Dundowran Provisional School (pictured below), built in 1891 was in the area, closing in December 1960. The school and the Dundowran Recreational Hall were moved to the Hervey Bay Historical Village, Scarness. You can find out more about Hervey Bay’s history at the Hervey Bay Historical Village and Museum.

Dundowran Beach QLD Today

Dundowran Beach, located just fifteen minutes drive from the Hervey Bay CBD is absolutely stunning— Absolute Beachfront Acreage Living with some of the regions best coastal and hinterland panoramic views! The entire Dundowran Beach area features natural and man-made lagoon systems bringing an abundance of native wildlife to the region; the most notable being the Arkarra Lagoon.

Regarded as one of Fraser Coast’s most prestigious residential beach-side suburbs, the region is ideal for home buyers seeking larger allotments within immediate vicinity of the beach. The hillside views overlooking Point Vernon, Gataker’s Bay and Dundowran Beach are a bonus. With its own local shopping village, a short drive to Hervey Bay city center and bus transport available; this elite coastal suburb boasts many of the regions most spectacular homes in among a tropical acreage beach setting.

Depending on location, home allotments range in size from large residential blocks in a suburban setting to park like small acreage allotments around the various lagoons, new developments to full beachfront blocks.

It’s an absolutely gorgeous area! If you dream of a lifestyle where you and your family live in an urban-country location, perhaps even on top of a hill with impressive distant views of the ocean— Dundowran Beach may be just right for you! It’s quiet and serene because although other homes are nearby, unlike other suburbs, nobody is on top of each other. This is truly paradise!

The area has it’s own local shopping village: Craignish Foodworks, a Cafe/Takeway, Pharmacy and medical services. It’s also less than 15 minutes by car to Hervey Bay shops and services.

There are extensive plans for future development in the area for approximately 100 new homes each over 20 years. Time will tell, although there does appear to be quite a bit of vacant small acreage land currently available for building on.

Are you ready to move to paradise? Be sure to also check out the nearby suburbs of Dundowran, Eli Waters, and Toogoom.
