Dundowran History

Historically, the name Dundowran may have been derived from the Kabi language ‘thundarun’ meaning plum tree or in association with the Queensland ‘kauri  pine’.

The area also has a couple of heritage-listed sites, including: Gallagher & Bagnell Grave Site and the Dundowran Recreational Hall.

There was also a local school in the area back in 1891 named Dundowran Provisional School. (pictured below) It closed in December 1960 and was then moved, along with Dundowran Hall to the Hervey Bay Historical Village in Scarness. Dundowran QLD Today

Dundowran is situated a few kilometres inland from the stunning, and very prestigious beachfront suburb of Dundowran Beach. Although not beachfront, the area offers some amazing coastal and hinterland views. Allotments range in size from very large suburban 1000+m² to small and large acreage properties. There are several main roads (depending on where you are heading to or from) connecting the area to the rest of Hervey Bay. The views on both sides of the road are breathtaking to say the least.

The initial impression of the picturesque suburb is similar to an upmarket rural residential sub-division but with magnificent views, rolling hills and the beach only minutes away. It’s absolutely gorgeous and very affordable. If you dream of a lifestyle where you and your family live in an urban-country location, perhaps even on top of a hill with impressive distant views of the ocean— Dundowran may be just right for you! It’s quiet and serene because although other homes are nearby, unlike other suburbs, nobody is on top of each other. This is truly paradise!

Don’t forget that the area is conveniently close to local shopping: Craignish Foodworks, a Cafe/Takeway, Pharmacy and medical services. It’s only a few minutes drive to the nearest beach, an extra few minutes drive to Toogoom or less than 15 minutes drive to Hervey Bay.

Depending on location, home allotments range in size from large residential blocks in a suburban setting to park like small acreage allotments around the various lagoons, new developments to full beachfront blocks.

Yarrilee Circuit Dundowran QLD

For those preferring a more suburban home on a smaller block, the Yarrilee estate just off Scrub Hill Road and opposite the Yarrilee Primary School may be a great option, especially for first home buyers, retirees or investors. Prices in this area are a little less expensive than the acreage options further along the road. And Eli Waters Shopping Centre and Hervey Bay CBD are literally just up the road!
