Kawungan, Hervey Bay has a large variety of schooling options with plenty of public schools to choose from including Hervey Bay Special School. There are also a number of private schools, daycare / preschool / kindy options, a Tafe College and the USC Fraser Coast University a short drive away.

Extending from Oleander Drive in the north to Doolong Road and Nikenbah in the south; Kawungan is the most centrally located residential suburb.
