Torbanlea is situated just under 5kms from Howard, 28kms north of Maryborough and about 35kms west of Hervey Bay. The North Coast (Cairns to Brisbane) train passes through the town with the station located at its centre. The Bruce Highway also runs parallel, just south of the railway line bypassing the town centre. Except for the centre of town, most of the area including along the river and highway is farming land with hillier sections in the southeast being mostly bushland.

Torbanlea, one of Queensland’s original coal-mining settlements is situated on the Fraser Coast. Most famous for the annual October picnic horse races and certainly regarded as Queensland best with locals and scores of visitors immersing themselves in fun race day atmosphere at Torbanlea’s Racetrack and Sports grounds. You might like to enjoy a meal and drink at the historical Miners Arms Hotel which retains much of its original characteristics from when it opened back in 1889 as a watering hole for local miners. There are some great options for fishing, swimming and camping at Burrum River, the Wongi Waterholes and Lenthall’s Dam.
