Urangan QLD History

Urangan, Hervey Bay in Queensland sits at the eastern end of the coastal strip and is the gateway to Fraser Island’s western beaches and the Great Sandy Straits Marine Park. Originally known as the Port of Urangan, the region is one of Hervey Bay’s most iconic spots. The Urangan Pier constructed back in 1917  was primarily used to assist with the export of Bundaberg sugar, Burrum coal and Fraser Island timber via a steam train linking the pier to Maryborough. Exports were loaded onto cargo ships that shipped all around the world.
