Pialba QLD History
Originally named Polson, the population of Pialba was just 85 people back in 1883 with Pialba State School opening in 1884. The construction of the Maryborough to Pialba railway line in 1896 boosted visitors to the region. With the railway station built so close to the beach, a junction was added enabling a connection to the Urangan station since the line could not be directly extended. June 1929 saw a lightweight railcar (railmotor) added for greater passenger services.
The town name was changed to Pialba on 19 March 1931; soon emerging as the commercial hub. Neighbouring Point Vernon became the prime residential area boasting stunning Esplanade homes with commanding views right across the bay.

Certainly, the oldest and most iconic of Hervey Bay’s suburbs, it’s no surprise that it became the CBD commercial hub of the bustling beach-side city.
The CBD takes up much of the suburb but is nicely balanced with plenty of well-established residential areas within remarkable proximity to the beach and all necessary modern lifestyle services. The foreshore has a mix of high-rise apartments, holiday rental units and beachfront caravan parks.
The commercial hub has at its centre— Major Shopping Complexes, Hervey Bay RSL, the Art Gallery, USC Fraser Coast University, State & Local Government Departments, Wetside Water Park / Whale Tail Water Park and the Hervey Bay Seafront Oval.
Heading away from the beach (east) along Main St or Beach Rd towards Boat Harbour Drive you will find Stockland Shopping Centre and several Boat Harbour Drive commercial, business and retail shopping strips. You will also find Hervey Bay Golf & Country Club, Pialba Primary and Hervey Bay State High Schools, Cinemas, Pubs and Restaurants.

The suburb features a blend of older homes— timber cottages, late 20th Century brick, and contemporary-style homes in an urban modern environment. Driving through the established residential areas, there is a feeling of an abundance of space with wider streets and large blocks.
